Support High Stakes

Making movies, even independently, is expensive! You can help make this movie a reality by donating money or gear to the project, by purchasing High Stakes merchandise, by promoting the movie, and by subscribing to the email newsletter.

Thank you!

Donate to High Stakes

The most direct way you can help produce the movie is to donate money or gear to the project. Put your money where your mouth is, and contribute to an independently-made, Canadian-shot and -set, and funny movie!

All donations will be gratefully acknowledged, unless you request anonymity.

Send an Interac e-Transfer

The best and easiest way to send money is by Interac E-Transfer. It’s the best and easiest way because we get your money right away, don’t have to take any action to do so, and don’t have to pay a transfer fee of any kind. That may matter less to you than it does around here. But seriously, if your financial institution offers the feature, it’s a handy and secure way to send and receive money.

If you are new to this method of sending money, Interac has a short video introducing e-Transfers. It gives you a solid briefing in 40 seconds:

Basically, you log in to your bank account, add Minor Mogul as a payee (use name “Minor Mogul Movies” and email address “MinorMogul@GMail.com”), and transfer money right out of your bank account and into Minor Mogul’s.

When you send an e-Transfer to MinorMogul@GMail.com, you should not be asked for a security question as the transfer is automatically deposited. If you are prompted to answer a question, please double-check to see that the email has no typos. We don’t want your money going to the wrong people, do we? No, we don’t.

If you have any problems, please email.

Send a cheque or cash

Sending a cheque to support High Stakes is simple! Make it payable to “Minor Mogul”, pop it into an envelope, mail it to Minor Mogul’s postal address, and Bob’s your uncle (if your father’s brother is named Robert).

It’s not always the best idea to send cash through the mail: it’s hard to track because of its anonymous nature. On the other hand, it can be a great idea to buy stuff with cash through the mail because of its anonymous nature . . .

As with cheques, simply stuff it into an envelope and mail it to Minor Mogul’s postal address. You can trust us here, but some dishonest individual in the middle might intercept cash, and it’s gone without trace. If you want to send cash through the mail, exercise reasonable caution. Wrap it so you can’t tell what it is, and maybe send it registered mail so you know it’s been delivered.

Donate gear

You can help the screenplay become a movie by donating equipment for the shoot: cameras, tripods, lighting instruments, microphones, computers, cables, tools, hardware, and accessories of every kind are always welcome.

High Stakes has already secured partnerships to access a basic indie-level kit. But more gear is always welcome! Additional gear (and, of course, the know-how to use it) increases the production value and scope of the movie.

The size of the gift is less important than the support it represents! You can donate a stinger (heavy-duty extension cord) or a passenger van (for ferrying around cast and crew). It’s an axiom of movie-making that you can never have too many C-stands!

If you have items you’d like to donate, please contact us and we’ll work out the details. Or just ship it to our postal address!

Promote High Stakes

The project, of course, mounts promotional campaigns to make audiences aware of the movie, such as our recent comic-book giveaway for 4 / 20 Day.

But the best publicity is still word of mouth. The best way you can help promote High Stakes is by telling your friends about it — in real life and online.

Here are a couple’a suggestions for concrete things you can do to promote High Stakes:

  • Share your interest in this movie with people you know who are interested in independent and / or Canadian movies and movie-makers. Share your interest with people you know who enjoy comedy movies. Share your interest with people you know who enjoy Weed. Encourage ’em to check out HighStakesMovie.ca for themselves.
  • Encourage people to sign up for the email newsletter. Tell ’em it features updates on the project’s progress, plus exclusive “Inside People” peeks, articles, contests, and more!
  • Buy or make some High Stakes flyers or stickers. You can decorate your phone, laptop, binder, car, house, or face and at the same time make other people aware of the movie.

Thank you in advance for your efforts!

Subscribe to email newsletter

Lots of us don’t have spare wads of cash or piles of gear lying around, and are not comfortable promoting a stranger’s work-in-progress to their friends. That’s fine!

You can still support High Stakes by subscribing to the email newsletter. You’ll receive updates about the progress of the movie, plus exclusive “Inside People” peeks, articles about independent and micro-budget movies and movie-making, quizzes and contests, and resources for movie-makers and movie-watchers. Stay in touch; who knows where it may lead?
